About

Read me!, a 360-degree text projection, transforms the space into a walk-in book page and invites the audience to rethink the dynamic between text and viewer. The installation asks whether the meaning of a text changes when viewed from different angles. This work is an invitation to reflect on the mutability of meaning and how the pure activity of looking transforms the nature of what is looked at. As we navigate through this text, we become co-creators, discovering that meaning is not fixed, but born in the eye of the beholder.

Complete projected text:

Read me! Even though I‘m tall, I mean the same thing. Right? What happens when you get closer to me? Take the word emptiness, for example. Emptiness Emptiness Emptiness. . Stand in front of the three times written word emptiness. Get closer. Even closer. Closer still. Even closer. What doyou see? An E? M? P? T? I? N? E? S? S? Get closer. Even closer. Do you see emptiness or surface? Do you see black or white? Can you see the boundary between black and white, the transition between emptiness and surface? Is it rigid or fluid? Do I move with you when you move? (I hope you‘re not dizzy yet.) So what does this mean? Does the meaning of the words change when you look at them individually? What about when the words become letters and the letters become surfaces or emptiness? So I ask whether there is a difference between emptiness and surface. Does the emptiness say as much as the surface? Because without emptiness, all that remains is surface (and vice versa). No boundaries, just one huge area. Does the size of the letters influence their relevance? Will their credibility be increased? How does your relationship with them change? They are just a surface, and the surface gets bigger or smaller depending on how you move towards it. At the same time, your surface changes for me. Who likes you more, the surface or the emptiness? Who do you like more? Does the surface, the letter, the word, the text mean the same to you as it does to others? Or is it your surface, your individual, customised surface that exists only for you? Can this question refer to everything that can be experienced? Does my meaning, my content, change when I am read? I exist regardless of whether I am read or not. However, I think that my existence and meaning is reshaped with every new encounter. What about you? Do you change when you read me? Will you be heavier now that you are carrying my surfaces with you? Can you forget me? Or will I now be part of you forever? How does this space feel and fill? Will it remember us? Will our surfaces leave traces? Memories? And will they remain when the room is refilled? Now that I am talking to you like this, do you think that I am more than black and white? More than surface and emptiness? Is emptiness perhaps precisely there to be filled with surfaces? To form the entirety together?
Please stay a little longer. It was so nice with you.
